# What is the AI Scribe feature in Jane, and how does it work?
### The AI Scribe is a tool used by some therapists to help with note-taking during sessions.
### It can capture key points from your conversation and turn them into structured notes. Your therapist reviews and edits these notes before saving them to your file. **Do I have to consent to this?**
Yes — your consent is always required before AI Scribe is used in any session.
Before using this feature:
- You’ll receive a consent form with more details
- You can choose whether or not you’re comfortable with it
You can also talk it through with your therapist during your session before deciding. You can withdraw your consent at any time by letting your therapist know.
#### **What if I don’t want to use it?**
That’s completely okay. If you don’t give consent, your therapist will simply take notes as they normally would. Your care will not be impacted in any way.
#### **Is my information private and secure?**
Yes , your privacy is protected.
- The AI Scribe is **PHIPA-compliant**, meaning it meets Ontario’s standards for protecting personal health information.
- Only your therapist can access your notes — they are never shared with third parties without your permission.
- All data is stored on secure, encrypted servers.
#### **Are my sessions being recorded?**
Sessions are **not permanently recorded or stored**. If AI Scribe is used, a temporary recording may be made solely to generate notes. This recording is automatically deleted within 7 days and is never used for any other purpose.
