With the correct consents obtained, we will see children under 18 years old!
Some of our therapists do see adolescent clients! The Care team is happy to work with your child to match them with their ideal therapist according to their preferences, specialties and availability!
Before we are able to do this, we will need to obtain their Consent to Treatment. Consent to Treatment is a statement provided by your child that indicates their willingness to start therapy. While there is no minimum age to obtaining consent for therapy, maintaining consent and confidentiality is of the utmost importance to us! Not only does it impact therapy outcomes, but we are also mandated by the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) to protect the confidentiality of all professionally acquired information.
Consent to Treatment can be obtained by the Care team over a phone call. You can call 1 (800) 661-8681, or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. If your child does not have their own email address, a call is required. Once Consent to Treatment is obtained, we are then able to work with your child to set up future appointments.
If you will be the one managing your child’s therapy process, we will also need to obtain a Consent to Disclose Information form. This differs from the Consent to Treatment, as a formal document is required to release any information to anyone other than the client. You can read more about our Consent to Disclose process HERE! Regardless of the age of your child, the form should be completed by your child. You can walk through the form with your child together, and co-sign if you wish.
We understand that starting therapy is a daunting process, let alone supporting your child in starting therapy! We are here to walk you through it every step of the way. Don’t hesitate to drop our Care team a line at 1 (800) 661-8681, or send us an email at email@example.com.
